1. Introduction

Welcome to Gurukul Wisdom (“we”, “our”, or “us”). Gurukul Wisdom is a comprehensive exam preparation application designed for students preparing for government competitive examinations, including but not limited to UPSC, OPSC, SSC, Banking, and Railway examinations.

This Privacy Policy describes how we collect, use, disclose, and safeguard your information when you use our mobile application Gurukul Wisdom (the “App”). Please read this policy carefully. If you disagree with its terms, please discontinue use of the App.

By using the App, you agree to the collection and use of information in accordance with this policy. This policy complies with applicable data protection laws including the Information Technology Act, 2000 (India) and Google Play’s Developer Policy.

2. Information We Collect

2.1 Information You Provide Directly

  • Full name and email address (during account registration)
  • Phone number (for phone-based authentication via Firebase)
  • Profile information such as exam type selected and preparation goals
  • Payment information (processed securely through Google Play — we do not store card details)

2.2 Authentication Data

We use Firebase Authentication (provided by Google LLC) to manage user accounts. When you sign in using:

  • Email & Password: we collect your email address and a securely hashed password.
  • Google Sign-In: we collect your Google account name, email address, and profile picture URL as provided by Google.
  • Facebook Login: we collect your Facebook name, email address, and profile picture URL as provided by Facebook.

We do not store your Google or Facebook passwords. Authentication tokens are managed securely by Firebase.

2.3 Usage and Analytics Data

When you use the App, we may automatically collect:

  • Device information (device model, operating system version, unique device identifiers)
  • App usage data (screens visited, features used, time spent in the App)
  • Exam progress, scores, and performance data
  • Crash reports and error logs for improving App stability
  • IP address and general geographic location (country/state level only)

2.4 Data We Do NOT Collect

We do not collect:

  • Precise GPS or real-time location data
  • Contacts, camera, or microphone data
  • Sensitive personal information such as Aadhaar, PAN, or financial account details
  • Messages or communications between users

3. How We Use Your Information

We use the information we collect to:

  • Create and manage your Gurukul Wisdom account
  • Provide access to exam preparation content, study materials, and practice questions
  • Process in-app purchases and subscription payments through Google Play
  • Personalise your learning experience based on your exam selection and progress
  • Send important notifications about your account, new content, and exam updates
  • Improve and optimise the App through analytics and usage patterns
  • Respond to your customer support queries and feedback
  • Ensure the security and integrity of the App
  • Comply with legal obligations

4. In-App Purchases & Subscriptions

Gurukul Wisdom offers premium content through in-app purchases and subscription plans. All payments are processed securely through the Google Play Billing system.

  • We do not directly collect or store your credit/debit card information.
  • Billing and payment processing is handled entirely by Google Play.
  • Subscription details (plan type, renewal date, status) are stored in our system to manage your access.
  • Refunds are subject to Google Play’s refund policy.

5. Third-Party Login Services

5.1 Google Sign-In

When you use Google Sign-In, Google may collect data in accordance with Google’s Privacy Policy. We receive only the basic profile information you authorize (name, email, profile photo).

5.2 Facebook Login

When you use Facebook Login, Facebook may collect data in accordance with Facebook’s Data Policy. We receive only the basic profile information you authorize (name, email, profile photo).

5.3 Firebase (Google LLC)

We use Firebase services including Firebase Authentication, Firebase Firestore, and Firebase Analytics. Firebase is operated by Google LLC and governed by Google’s Privacy Policy. Data may be processed on servers outside India.

6. Data Sharing and Disclosure

We do not sell, trade, or rent your personal information to third parties. We may share information with:

  • Service Providers: Third-party vendors (such as Firebase/Google) who assist us in operating the App, subject to confidentiality agreements.
  • Legal Requirements: When required by law, court order, or government authority in India or applicable jurisdictions.
  • Business Transfers: In the event of a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, user data may be transferred. We will notify you before such transfer.
  • Protection of Rights: When necessary to protect the safety, rights, or property of Gurukul Wisdom, our users, or the public.

7. Data Retention

We retain your personal data for as long as your account is active or as needed to provide services:

  • Account data is retained until you delete your account.
  • Exam progress and learning data is retained to preserve your history and progress.
  • Payment records are retained for 7 years as required by Indian financial regulations.
  • After account deletion, anonymised usage data may be retained for analytical purposes.

You may request deletion of your data at any time by contacting us (see Section 11).

8. Data Security

We implement industry-standard security measures to protect your information:

  • All data transmission is encrypted using HTTPS/TLS protocols.
  • Firebase Authentication uses industry-standard encryption for credentials.
  • Access to user data is restricted to authorised personnel only.
  • We conduct regular security reviews of our App and infrastructure.

However, no method of transmission over the internet or electronic storage is 100% secure. While we strive to use commercially acceptable means to protect your personal information, we cannot guarantee its absolute security.

9. Children’s Privacy

Gurukul Wisdom is intended for users aged 13 years and above. We do not knowingly collect personal information from children under the age of 13. If you are a parent or guardian and believe your child under 13 has provided personal information, please contact us immediately and we will delete such information from our servers.

Users between 13 and 18 years of age should use the App only with parental or guardian consent.

10. Your Rights

As a user of Gurukul Wisdom, you have the following rights regarding your personal data:

  • Access: Request a copy of the personal data we hold about you.
  • Correction: Request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data.
  • Deletion: Request deletion of your account and associated personal data.
  • Portability: Request your data in a machine-readable format.
  • Withdrawal of Consent: Withdraw consent for data processing at any time (this may affect App functionality).
  • Opt-out of Communications: Unsubscribe from non-essential communications via account settings.

13. Governing Law

This Privacy Policy is governed by and construed in accordance with the laws of India, including the Information Technology Act, 2000 and the Information Technology (Reasonable Security Practices and Procedures and Sensitive Personal Data or Information) Rules, 2011. Any disputes arising under this policy shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts in India.
